Ontario Power Generation has successfully used VSG, a readily biodegradable grease, in its hydroelectric power stations. VSG, developed and manufactured in Canada, is designed to replace mineral oil-based greases that can harm waterways. It is made from canola oil and is free of lead, chlorine, and zinc, making it an environmentally friendly option. VSG has been used in 24 units at Ontario Hydro and over 40 units across North America, and has performed well in testing, meeting cold weather requirements and being compatible with existing greases.
