Items from Minutes of last meeting - 31January 2023
No issues outstanding.
Item 1
Captain’s Report
Captain John informed the meeting of his choice for Vice Captain, Peter Newton and this was
unanimously endorsed by the committee.
Matches so far have all went well with the usual mixed success in results. The support for
matches has held up with little effort needed to ‘fill up’ the team sheets, however, we need to
continue watching as we move into the congested part of the season where we occasionally have
3 matches per week.

We had expected our usual cheque from one of our annual contributors and this has not been
received.
Action
Captain to clarify situation with office.
Item 2
Treasurer’s Report
John reported that our finances are in a healthy position and once more the Bowmaker contributed
a reasonable profit and proved to be a successful competition in promoting the Senior Section and
the Club. Well done and thank you to all those who helped in the event.
It was also mentioned that the organising team were a little disappointed with the level of
volunteers coming forward to help with the event so if you can give a couple of hours to assist on
the day then please get in touch with the organisers. Your help is much appreciated.
It was also agreed that we would look to increase the Bowmaker entry in 2024 to £45
Item 3
Club Match Support
As mentioned in Captains report support for matches has been not too bad so far in 2023.
However, we need to maintain our focus going forward and recognise the economics around
asking members to support 2/3 matches per week which could see diminishing support for our
matches. This will be a continued area of focus through the year.
Action
Captain and Vice Captain to look into the current schedule and look at what they consider the
optimum number of matches and review and recommend to the committee what they would
consider the best way forward.
Item 4
Basingstoke have asked us if we would be prepared to ‘host’ their home match at Waterlooville as
opposed to our just playing the one time against them in 2023. Owing to diary congestion at
Waterlooville we were unable to accommodate this request.
Action
Secretary to inform Basingstoke of our position.
Item 5
Past Captain brought forward his options for the new Seniors Aggregate Trophy. After some
consideration the committee decided that the old Leo Williams Trophy would be most appropriate
and would help us keep alive the memory of a member who contributed so much to the Club over
the years.
Action
Past Captain to do what is needed to get the trophy ready for presentation in 2023.
Pass our thanks to Robin Parker for his offer of the ‘Claret Jug’.

Item 6
Support for Open competitions
Roger Penney reiterated that one of the major differentiators we have at senior events at
Waterlooville is the unparallelled support we get at these events through members volunteering for
various roles through the day from car parking, ball spotting and general help and support. Visitors
are always delighted and very impressed by the spirit engendered through the Club. The concern
is that the amount of volunteers appears to be diminishing over the last few events.

Action
Roger to continue his sterling efforts in recruiting helpers for all the Open events supported by the
rest of the Committee.
Ensure the communication is clear and widespread on how you can volunteer and what level of
support you can provide.
Ensure the message is communicated through the Friday update coming from the office.
Item 7
Next Meeting will be held on 14th August at 14:30 at the Club
