Summary

WWF and Michelin Group launched a partnership in 2015 to drive change in the natural rubber market, with two main axes of work: defining sustainable natural rubber and implementing a pilot project in Indonesia. Michelin released its Sustainable Natural Rubber Policy in 2015, including a Zero Deforestation commitment, and launched a mobile app to map and assess supply chain players' CSR practices. The partnership achieved successes, including the protection of nearly 10,000 hectares dedicated to conservation in Indonesia, and influenced other key tire makers to publish their Sustainable Natural Rubber Policies. The Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber was launched in 2018, with Michelin and WWF as Founding Members. The partnership has been renewed for four years, with four new axes of work: transforming the market and production of natural rubber, supporting natural forest conservation and restoration, advancing Michelin's climate and sustainable mobility ambition, and developing a biodiversity ambition.
