Design is often said to be problem-solving, but there is little discussion on how to determine if a problem is solved. In modern times, designers tend to think that a problem is solved when they deliver a product, and clients tend to outsource design work. This institutionalization of design has created a state of "modernized poverty" where people are unable to do things on their own. The article explores the ideal image of a designer who can enable people to live happily and convivially. It discusses the concept of DesignX, which is a multidisciplinary approach to design, and how it can be used to solve complex problems. However, it also questions whether design can truly solve problems, and whether the concept of "problem-solving" is realistic. The article argues that design should focus on enabling clients to solve problems on their own, rather than just providing solutions.
