India had one of the longest school closures, resulting in significant learning loss, particularly in early years. A study by Azim Premji Foundation focused on teacher efforts to support learning recovery after school reopening, covering 108 teachers, 41 districts, and 1,644 students in classes 2-5. Key findings include:

89% of teachers made space for students' narratives and experiences, and 81% used fun games and activities to engage students.
72% of teachers divided students into logical learning groups to address multilevel classrooms.
81% of teachers encouraged students to use local dialects, and 75% used various teaching-learning resources.
38% of teachers used multiple assessment tools, and 87% used oral assessments.

Student assessments showed that at the start of the study, 53-70% of students couldn't demonstrate previous class abilities in language, and 29-57% couldn't demonstrate previous class abilities in mathematics. By the end of the study, 41-50% of students showed improvement in language abilities, and 47-63% showed improvement in mathematics abilities.
