New Venture Lab is a 3-credit course that provides a hands-on experience in entrepreneurship, focusing on experimentation, innovation, and evidence-based decision making. The course teaches students to assess and understand customers, design thinking, and competitors, and to translate insights into a winning venture idea, business model, and products/services. Students will learn to raise venture financing, write a launch plan, and create a pitch for investors. The course culminates in a judged venture pitch competition, Eagle Biz. Students will work in teams to develop and assess their own start-up, learning to test assumptions, pivot when necessary, and create a formal written launch plan with financial projections and a PowerPoint pitch. The course requires 9 hours of work per week, including 1 hour in class and 2 hours preparing outside of class.
