Summary

Stakeholder analysis includes all persons, groups, or organizations with the ability to place claims against organizational goals, span of attention, resources, or outputs. Various stakeholder theorists, such as Freeman, Hill and Jones, Clarkson, and Donaldson and Preston, have identified diverse constituencies as stakeholders, including owners, suppliers, customers, employees, financial community, government, consumer advocacy groups, and competitors. A stakeholder approach encourages corporate executives to include external and internal groups and individuals in managerial decision-making processes, addressing what managers should do to shape their relationship with stakeholders. The CVFCC map highlights the importance of primary stakeholders, such as customers, investors, regulators, and employees, and secondary stakeholders. Communicating with stakeholders requires understanding their concerns, values, and power bases, and making decisions to support and strengthen the alignment of organizational strategies with the most influential stakeholders.
