Admission to M.Tech courses at the University of Calcutta is based on merit, with 80% of non-sponsored seats reserved for current year B.Tech/MCA students of the university (Part-A) and 20% open to non-CU students and other CU students (Part-B). Merit lists are prepared based on GATE marks and qualifying examination marks.

For Part-A, the merit list is prepared with 70% weightage to GATE marks and 30% to qualifying examination marks. For Part-B, the merit list is prepared with 70% weightage to GATE marks and 30% to interview marks.

Valid GATE qualified scores are mandatory for non-CU candidates in certain courses, but not required for sponsored seats or certain other courses. Interviews are required for some courses, and merit lists are prepared based on interview marks.

Separate merit lists are prepared for different categories, including UR, SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, and PWD. Selection is based on merit and availability of vacant seats, with candidate preferences considered during the selection process. Unfilled seats in Part-A can be filled by eligible applicants from Part-B, and vice versa. SC/ST/PWD reservations are as per university rules.
