Summary

Compassion in higher education is gaining traction, referring to an interpersonal process where individuals observe someone's suffering, experience empathic feelings, and act to alleviate their suffering. It is related to empathy, understanding, and self-compassion. The COVID-19 pandemic has increased interest in integrating compassion into teaching practices to improve student and educator well-being. This stream proposes using compassion to dismantle systemic marginalization and discrimination, and invites submissions on topics such as creating compassionate learning environments, the role of emotion in education, and decolonizing compassion to incorporate non-Eurocentric considerations. Abstracts of 500 words are due by December 22nd, 2023, for consideration in the GWO 2024 conference.
