The RAND Corporation conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of correctional education programs in reducing recidivism and improving employment outcomes for incarcerated adults in US state prisons. The analysis found that correctional education programs are associated with reductions in recidivism and improvements in employment and other outcomes. The study reviewed published and unpublished studies from 1980 to 2011, focusing on programs with academic and/or vocational curricula and structured instructional components. The research was sponsored by the Bureau of Justice Assistance and aimed to inform policymakers, educators, and correctional education administrators about the effectiveness of correctional education programs.
