Welcome to year 2. We will take advantage of every opportunity to learn about Welsh history and culture. Welsh is the language of school life in the Foundation Phase. We will be learning stories using the Pie Corbett method, learning movements to go with the stories to help the children remember, which is effective in developing their Welsh vocabulary and story telling phrases. Children will read on a specific day each week as well as regular reading activities. We kindly ask you to send the reading book in a bag on the given day. As the pupils become ready, we will introduce and practice cursive handwriting. Our present theme is 'Y Goeden Ioga' (The yoga tree), a book which concentrates on health and well-being, keeping the body and mind healthy. We use the Numicon which emphasizes practical activities using the equipment and will develop mental arithmetic skills daily. We aim to create a classroom environment which promotes a growth mindset, encouraging children to accept challenges and become independent learners. Physical Education will take place indoors and/or in the nature reserve. This year, children can wear their P.E. kit to school on the appropriate day and will need to wear trainers. As a part of life in the foundation phase, we will be out in light rain, please ensure your child has a rain coat and their name on all clothing. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide fruit or milk for your children, but they are welcome to bring their own fruit to school. Please ensure your child has enough water for the day. On the class webpage, there is a specific area listing useful hints and tips to help you help your child. We will also make the most of opportunities to hold games and activities outside on a regular basis and encourage the children to bring wellies to use our nature reserve.
