The Assessment, Curriculum and Technology Research Centre conducted a study on the alignment of the intended, implemented, and achieved science curriculum in the Philippines, focusing on inquiry skills. The study collected data from 44 Grade 8 Science classes, 22 teachers, and 11 Science department heads, and administered a Science Inquiry Skills Test to 1769 students. The research aimed to answer three questions: the extent of alignment between the intended, implemented, and achieved science curricula, factors influencing teachers' implementation of the science curriculum, and factors influencing students' achievement of science inquiry skills. The study found that alignment between the intended, implemented, and tested curricula has a positive effect on student achievement, and investigated classroom factors that influence the attainment of science inquiry skills. The research used models of science inquiry, such as the NSES five essential features of science inquiry, to inform the study. The findings will inform teachers, principals, and the Department of Education on the implementation of the initiative and facilitate improvements in delivery.
