Summary

Student attitudes and data literacy improved during a quarter of instruction, with increased confidence and ability to read and describe patterns in data. However, a discrepancy was found between students' attitude about using data and their perceived ability to use data to answer quantitative questions. Instructors can support students by guiding them through large data sets with orientation questions. The Learning Cycle model was used to integrate data activities into courses, and surveys evaluated student attitudes and data literacy. Results showed an increase in agreement for most attitude questions and improved data literacy, with 88% of students reporting having used data before in other courses.
