The diploma thesis is a part of the educational process and a necessary element for the completion of the Postgraduate Studies Programs (PSP) conducted by the Department of Logistics and Financial Management. During the second-to-last semester of studies, at the latest, the postgraduate student must submit a preliminary research outline for the preparation of the Postgraduate Diploma Thesis. This outline must define the subject to be analyzed, the research methodology to be followed, and the bibliography to be used. The acceptance of the research proposal is based on criteria such as the relevance of the subject to the postgraduate program, its contribution to expected benefits, and the elements of originality in the research approach.
The supervising professor is defined by the Department's Board, following a proposal by the Coordinating Committee, for each postgraduate student. The supervising professor must be a member of the Department's teaching staff and a member of the Educational Staff (EDIP) of the Department of Logistics and Financial Management or a member of EDIP of another University Department (who teaches in the specific PSP) or a Special Scientist (PD 407/1980) holding a doctoral degree who teaches in the PSP or an external collaborator with extensive professional experience (who teaches in the PSP) or another scientific person (who teaches in the PSP) in accordance with the applicable provisions.
The Coordinating Committee and the supervising professor have the responsibility for monitoring and controlling the progress of the postgraduate student. The language of writing the postgraduate diploma thesis is Greek. However, there is also the possibility of writing the diploma thesis in English, with the approval of the supervising professor and the approval of the Department's Board. In the case where the postgraduate diploma thesis is written in English, the candidate must include an extensive summary of their work in Greek.
For the examination of the postgraduate diploma thesis, a three-member committee is defined by the Department's Board, consisting of the supervising professor and two other members who are members of EDIP or Special Scientists (PD 407/80) holding a doctoral degree or Emeritus Professors (under the condition that they have, after the time of retirement or award of the title of Emeritus Professor, a sufficient number of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals of the cognitive subjects covered by the PSP) who teach in the specific PSP of the Department. The members of the committee must have the same or similar scientific specialization as the cognitive subject of the program and teach in the specific PSP.
In the event that the student requests in writing and with justified reason the change of the supervising professor, the Department's Board decides accordingly, after a proposal by the Coordinating Committee. Postgraduate diploma theses, if approved and graded by the three-member examination committee, are mandatorily posted on the relevant website (page) of the Institution's Library. To approve and grade the diploma thesis, the postgraduate student must publicly support it before the examination committee.
The diploma thesis is evaluated based on its scientific quality (topicality and scientific documentation of the objectives in relation to the existing bibliography, design, organization, and implementation of the methodological approach, processing, interpretation, and critical evaluation of the results, drawing of conclusions, and creation of justified proposals for further research) and the quality of the writing (presentation of content and diagrams, consistency of content, proper use of language and scientific terminology, proper citation of references). The final grade of the diploma thesis is the average of the grades of the three examiners, rounded to the nearest whole number.
Postgraduate students are obliged to cite any work and opinions of others they have used. Plagiarism is considered a serious academic offense. Plagiarism is considered to be the copying of another person's work, as well as the use of another person's work - published or not - without proper citation. The omission of any material evidence, even from the student's own work, without proper citation, can lead to a decision by the Department's Board to expel the student. In the above cases and after a justified proposal by the supervising professor, the Department's Board can decide to expel the postgraduate student. In the event that plagiarism is proven after the award of the postgraduate diploma, the title awarded is revoked with a justified decision and in accordance with the Institution's External Regulation.
