Previous research has shown that CDS tends to have fewer disfluencies than Adult-Directed Speech (ADS), with studies suggesting that the rate of disfluencies increases with the age of the child. The current study examines the types of disfluencies in Qaqet CDS, including unfilled pauses, hesitation pauses, and self-interruptions, and compares them to ADS. A model proposed by Clark and Wasow (1998) is used to explain the process of disfluency pauses, which involves committing to a constituent, suspending speech, dealing with potential delay, and restarting the constituent. The study also investigates the position of hesitations in sentences and their potential role in aiding listener comprehension.
