This study examines Sino-German communication interferences in intercultural teamwork, using a postmodern approach to understand the complexities of communication between Chinese and German team members. Previous research on multinational teamwork has focused on specific facilitators and barriers to communication, but this study argues that the needs of Chinese and German team members have been marginalized in the intercultural management research field. The study uses narrative inquiry to explore the stories of 12 Chinese and German participants, examining the linguistic and socio-cultural aspects of their communication experiences. The findings highlight the importance of foreign language proficiency, intercultural awareness, and knowledge of culture-specific communication conventions and strategies in minimizing communication interferences. The study also identifies the lack of foreign language proficiency and ethnocentric perspectives as major factors contributing to communication interferences. The results provide a thicker explanation of communication interferences in intercultural communication and contribute to the understanding of the meanings that can be made from such experiences.
