CfBT conducted a research study on international school links between the UK, India, and Kenya to examine their impact and educational benefits. The study focused on four dimensions: organisation and management, effects on learning, equity and fairness, and costs and sustainability. Key findings include the importance of flexible curricular environments, modular structures, and strong leadership for successful links. Links flourish with dedication and enthusiasm from staff, and require preparation, ongoing support, and monitoring and evaluation frameworks. Students and staff learn from links, including improved global awareness, subject knowledge, and communication skills. Equity and fairness within partnerships are crucial, and link agreements can help establish shared objectives and expectations. Sustainability and costs are also important considerations, with effective communication, shared commitment, and project-focused activities contributing to link longevity. Recommendations include exploring various media for communication, establishing partnership agreements, and embedding links across the school and wider community.
