Fresno Unified School District is executing a project to support guided pathways for students, leading to seamless transitions, dual enrollment credit, work-based learning opportunities, and aligned education with regional workforce needs. The project focuses on expanding opportunities in high-quality pathways, particularly in engineering, accounting, and single subject teachers. Key elements include mentoring, industry-specific summer camps, industry tours, and job shadowing. The project aims to enable high school students to experience on-campus living, complete transferable college credit courses, and participate in industry sector conversation events. The district's Department of College and Career Readiness is administering the project, which aligns with the district's strategic plan and goals, including student achievement, experiences, engagement, staff recruitment and retention, and family engagement. Despite challenges due to COVID-19, the project has made progress, including the alignment and training of dual enrollment teachers and the development of virtual internship opportunities. The project aims to increase participation of historically marginalized students and provide them with relevant and meaningful experiences.
