The end-point assessment for the Early Years Practitioner apprenticeship consists of two methods: a professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence and a knowledge test. The knowledge test is a 60-minute, 40-question multiple-choice test with a pass mark of 26 and a distinction mark of 32. The professional discussion lasts 90 minutes and is based on a portfolio of evidence containing 10-12 pieces of work-related evidence, including observations of practice and work products. The assessment methods are equally weighted, and both must be passed to achieve an overall pass, while a distinction in both is required for an overall distinction grade. Resits and retakes are allowed, but all assessment methods must be completed within 6 months, and the maximum grade achievable after a resit or retake is a pass unless exceptional circumstances apply.
