To enroll in English-language degree programs, proof of sufficient English language skills is required. Enrolment is only possible with an admissible language certificate. The following language certificates are accepted:

TOEFL (ibt): 79
IELTS (Academic): 6.0
Cambridge Certificate: B
UniCert: Stufe II

Special Language Requirements for Master's Programs

Some master's programs have special language requirements:

Heritage Conservation & Site Management (M.A.): TOEFL (ibt): 80, IELTS (Academic): 6.5
World Heritage Studies (M.A.): TOEFL (ibt): 79, IELTS (Academic): 6.5

Exceptions and Exemptions

Applicants with a German higher education entrance qualification may use their certificate as proof of English language skills if they demonstrate English language skills at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Applicants who completed their previous education in English in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Great Britain, or the United States do not need to submit a separate proof of English language skills.

Submission of Test Results

If test results are not available by the application deadline, applicants can upload a test registration to the application portal.
Official test results must be submitted to the BTU by the time of enrolment at the latest.

Notes on TOEFL and IELTS

Only Test Taker Score Reports (TOEFL) or IELTS Test Report Forms should be uploaded to the application portal.
