Summary

Faculty members are encouraged to support students with extenuating circumstances, but students are responsible for their coursework. For single absences, faculty may use discretion to excuse the absence based on attendance policy, and any notes provided by the student should be dated and general in nature. For excessive absences, students should be referred to the Disability Resource Center (DRC) for documentation and accommodation. Faculty members should not accept medical documentation with diagnoses or history from students, and any false documentation should be reported to the Office of Student Conduct. Students may be referred to various offices, such as the DRC, Student Health Service, or Counseling Center, for support and accommodation. The DRC will work with students to provide accommodations and communicate with faculty members as needed.
