Unit Name: "The Eyes of the Heart: Creating a Future for Everyone"

Unit Objectives:

1. Students will become familiar with Roman character input and learn to use computers effectively.
2. Students will understand the importance of computers in daily life and the need for problem-solving skills.
3. Students will learn about the lives and challenges of people with disabilities and think about how to support them.
4. Students will develop information gathering, research, and presentation skills to solve problems and create reports.
5. Students will learn to think logically and make decisions to solve problems and create a better future.
6. Students will understand the importance of creating a barrier-free environment and society for everyone.

Student Profile:

36 students in the 4th grade
Students have previously learned about the importance of computers and programming in their daily lives

Teaching Materials:

Computers and programming software
Internet and online resources
Barrier-free equipment and tools (e.g. wheelchairs, white canes, Braille displays)

Lesson Plan:

1. Introduction to Roman character input and computer basics (19 hours)
Students will learn to type using Roman characters and understand basic computer concepts
Students will participate in keyboard games and exercises to practice their typing skills
2. Learning about barrier-free environments and equipment (8 hours)
Students will learn about the importance of barrier-free environments and equipment (e.g. wheelchairs, elevators, Braille displays)
Students will participate in activities to understand the challenges faced by people with disabilities (e.g. blindfolded navigation, wheelchair obstacle course)
3. Research and problem-solving (8 hours)
Students will research and gather information about barrier-free environments and equipment
Students will work in groups to design and propose solutions to create a barrier-free school environment
4. Presentation and reflection (11 hours)
Students will present their proposals and reflect on what they have learned
Students will discuss and think about how to create a barrier-free society and environment for everyone

Assessment Criteria:

Knowledge and skills: students will be assessed on their understanding of computer basics, barrier-free environments, and problem-solving skills
Thinking and judgment: students will be assessed on their ability to think logically and make decisions to solve problems
Attitude and participation: students will be assessed on their participation and attitude towards creating a barrier-free environment and society
