Summary

German media philosophy emerged in the 1980s, evolving from Hegel's romantic vision of culture as language to a vision of culture permeated by digital technologies, shifting from discourse and linear thinking to practice oriented towards technology and machines producing meanings independently of consciousness. Philosophy deconstructs the medium of writing, tries to circumvent media, and returns to the "lifeworld", while the "medial turn" opens new philosophical reflections under Medienphilosophie, with the romantic style reappearing in Siegfried Zielinski's return to theory as philology. The crisis of the linear and the emergence of the cybernetic principle undermine the Cartesian world, and modern philosophy legitimized the rational, ordered, and confident self, with Hegel's model man being a writer-intellectual immersed in history and culture, becoming self-aware through speech, which is the "existence of the pure self qua self". Speech conveys true knowledge, is a transparent mode of expression, and brings the ego into the spiritual whole, while self-consciousness suspends it, making it disappear and become something else.
