Summary

Dear Parents, carers and children,
We would normally end our first term of the academic year with our Harvest Celebrations in our school hall. Sadly, this won’t be possible this year, so we have decided to hold our own Harvest Day Celebration, which will be a compilation of art work, poems and songs that each class across the school will have contributed to.
So that you can also share in our celebration, we will create a video of our work and put this on our school website for you all to access and hopefully enjoy watching over the half term break!
We will however, still be collecting tin and packets of food for the whole of the week beginning Monday 19th October, so please remember to send something in with your child. Any fresh produce you would like to donate should only be brought in on the last day of term – Friday 23rd October. The collected items will then be shared out and delivered to some of our local care homes.
Childcare Vouchers
If you pay for Breakfast Club or After School Club with the Government Tax Free Childcare Vouchers, please could you let the school office know when you have made a payment and the reference number used. Unfortunately, with this scheme we are not notified when a payment has been made.
Kent Test
Good Luck to the Year 6 students who will be sitting the Kent Test this week!
Secondary School Applications

Hi Clownfish, In Year R we had our first PE lesson - it was brilliant! We moved in different ways and practised stopping like a bubble. We continued to learn new Phonics sounds and can now read i, n, p, g and o. We brought home our first bookbag book this week and have been telling stories to our adults. We are also confident reading and making groups to 5. We continued talking about our families and even built our homes; apparently Elsa and CJ both live in an igloo! This is Dulcie's 3D shape tower and this is Tate's tent. Best wishes. Mrs Goodeal
Hi Seahorses, In Year 1 we have been very busy continuing with our Superworm story. We had a go at writing a sentence together based on a picture of the story. We also talked about the rhyming words in the story and did an activity where we tried to match these rhyming words. In Maths we have been looking at '1 less' as well as taking away/counting back using our number lines. As part of our learning about Harvest we are collecting various materials to use in our art and doing some vegetable printing. Best wishes Mr McCoy
Hi Rays, In Year 2 we have been learning about measuring weight. We have enjoyed using balance scales to weigh objects in our classroom. We have begun to find half of amounts and shapes. In English we received a postcard from Captain Flinn! We decided to try writing our own postcards from Dymchurch. In our topic we have been learning about the local area and the history of the Martello Tower. In RE we have been learning about the Golden Rule and the importance of being kind to each other. We wrote and drew kind chalk messages on our playground to encourage each other. Best wishes Miss Barrett / Miss Erskine
Hi Sharks, In Year 3 we have had a busy week and the children have continued to approach their learning with enthusiasm and excitement. We've started thinking about the Harvest festival and are working hard to film a memorable performance for everyone to see. In maths, we have been learning all about fractions. We started the week by comparing and ordering fractions and moved on to adding and subtracting fractions later in the week. In English, we have been writing diary entries based on the Stone Age boy. We have been looking at different types of sentences and how we can re-arrange the order of clauses in a sentence. The children wrote some fantastic diary entries and showed a really good understanding of the story. In Science, we carried out experiments to look at the different properties of soil. The children were given three different samples and carried out tests to find out which soil was the best drainer and which was the best soaker. We found out lots of interesting facts about soil. In topic, we have started a project to make Ug some soft trousers. We started by selecting the best material and we will move on to learning to sew next week. We also had great fun during music lessons when we used 2sequence to create our own pieces of music. Best wishes Mr Marsh
Hi Turtles, In Year 4 we have been working hard on our setting descriptions. We have compiled our writing and edited it to correct errors and add improvements. We then wrote out our settings in paragraphs as a final draft. The children worked very hard to create excellent pieces of writing. In maths, we have revisited our understanding of the written method of multiplication. We have been using arrays to help us understand the concept of multiplication. In our topic, we have been learning about the different types of rocks and how they are formed. We have been using our knowledge to create a model of a rock formation. Best wishes Miss Taylor
