The 2020-2021 HCEA Job Satisfaction Survey for Howard HS shows varied results.
Morale at the worksite is considered good, with 40.6% of respondents agreeing.
Open communication and trust are present, with 51.4% agreeing.
Most respondents (75.4%) feel successful in their work and 77.1% report good teamwork among staff.
However, 64.2% disagree that they are involved in decision-making, and 64.3% feel they do not have adequate time to plan and prepare for their job.
Administrators/supervisors are seen as respectful of negotiated contracts, with 88.1% agreeing.
But 50.8% disagree that administrators/supervisors support them in enforcing discipline, and 59.7% agree that student misbehavior interferes with learning.
Increased workload has contributed to a decline in morale for 82.4% of respondents, and 70% feel they are not paid fairly.
Confidence in leadership varies, with 52.9% having confidence in the HCPSS Superintendent, 38.8% in the Howard County Board of Education, and 79.1% in the Howard County Education Association.
Most respondents (73.5%) receive adequate support and training, but 97.1% have not experienced harassing behavior from colleagues.
The survey also covers virtual learning, with 63.2% agreeing that students have adequate technology and tools, and 79.4% agreeing that HCPSS has provided necessary software.
However, 58.7% feel that students are not engaged in virtual learning, and 90.9% are worried that online students are not actively engaged in class.
