Summary

The US Department of Education claims education is key to economic growth and prosperity, and many countries aim to address the shortage of STEM professionals. The "From Imagination to Innovation" (i2i) program, based on a spiral learning model, enables students to learn STEM as "Makers" by producing tangible models to solve relevant problems. This study evaluates the effect of an i2i event on Chinese secondary school students' motivation to study STEM, using failure and success as motivators. The i2i program includes three dimensions: knowledge, learning skills, and affective, with a focus on motivation to study STEM. The study addresses four research questions, including whether participating in an i2i event raises students' motivation to study STEM and if there is a difference in improvement based on gender.
