Mande Studies is a peer-reviewed journal publishing original research on Mande-speaking peoples of West Africa. It accepts submissions in French and English, with a focus on social sciences and humanities.

Submission Guidelines:

Original submissions only, with exceptions for works previously published in another language.
Authors must notify the editor-in-chief of previous publication and obtain permission to reprint.
Manuscripts should be 6,000-9,000 words, with shorter pieces considered for the Current Issues section.
Abstracts should be 125 words or less, in both English and French.
Text should be double-spaced, with 1-inch margins, 12-point Times New Roman font, and page numbers.
Endnotes should be substantive comments only.
References should follow the 17th edition of The Chicago Manual of Style.

Review Process:

Initial review by the editorial collective.
Double-blind peer review process, with authors encouraged to suggest reviewers.
Reviewers should not have a conflict of interest and should provide a thorough report.
Decision on acceptance, rejection, or revision within 3-6 months.

Manuscript Preparation:

Remove identifying references to the author.
Cite author's publications as "[Anonymous, year]".
Omit acknowledgments and author details from file names and document properties.
Submit manuscript via the online submission system, with components in the following order: cover page, abstract, list of keywords, text, endnotes, references, tables, and figures.

Languages and Plagiarism:

Mande Studies publishes in French and English.
Authors may be referred to an external copy editor for additional editing.
Plagiarism is taken seriously, and authors must properly acknowledge the work of others.

Photos, Maps, and Illustrations:

Authors can submit up to 2-3 images to supplement their article.
Images will appear in black and white, and authors must provide captions and obtain necessary permissions.
