The mathNEWS, Volume 79, Issue 1, was published on Friday, January 15, 1999. The Vice-President Financial, Mike Froh, announced that MathSoc's financial structure is changing, with three accounts being phased out in favor of a single consolidated account. The previous term's budget showed a profit of over $8,000, and suggestions are welcome for how to use this money. The Movie Guy, Mike O'Shea, discussed upcoming movie nights and listed some movies that will not be shown, including "Alligator 2: The Mutation" and "Titanic". The President of MathSoc, in the "Prez Sez" section, welcomed students back to school, mentioned the Math Grad Committee, and announced the Faculty Council meeting to discuss a Combined BMath/MMath and course averages. Elections for Vice President, Academic, will be held on January 18 and 19, and nominations are open for Class Rep positions.
