Participatory Theatre and Walking Methods for Research. This chapter introduces a participatory arts-based research project with migrant families, reflecting on how research can be an act of citizenship, co-producing knowledge that challenges social exclusion and racist and sexist subjugation of migrant girls and mothers. The project, PASAR, combined walking methods and participatory theatre to explore processes of belonging and place-making crucial to understanding and enacting citizenship. It developed methods for bringing together practitioners and marginalized groups through creative methods, including arts-based participatory methods of walking stories and theatre, to research migrant families' citizenship. The project consisted of three strands: intergenerational communication, conversation with policy-practice, and developing training tools for social science research. Participatory theatre and walking methods were used to research a policy issue, engage with policy makers, and enable participants to present their experiences and gain control over how they were presented, facilitating more equal discussions with practitioners and policy makers.
