Summary

The study demonstrates the significance of both types of links to account for generalizations and novel coinages, using Traugott's concept of micro-, meso-, and macro-constructions and Marchand's claim that locative prefixoids function as adverbs, adjectives, and prepositions. The analysis shows that antonymic pairs of micro-constructions are a conceivable level of granularity for a meso-construction, and that sister links motivate novel instantiations by analogy, such as "downlifting" and "upfall", which cannot be accounted for by the constraints of the mother schema. The study uses corpus data and collostructional analysis to identify constraints and compare constructions, and discusses the merit of the proposed constructional network.
