Summary

Entrepreneurship in advanced economies is declining, contrary to expectations of an "entrepreneurial economy" replacing the post-WW2 "managed" economy, instead leading to an "ossified economy" with declining labor productivity growth and rising income inequality. Current explanations for the decline are proximate and supply-side oriented, with shortcomings, and a new perspective argues that negative scale effects from rising complexity and long-run changes in aggregate demand due to inequality and rising energy costs are also responsible.
