Pearson Edexcel GCSE Physical Education advance information for the May-June 2022 assessment window, covering components 01 and 02, provides details on the focus of the content of the exams. The notice is meant to help students focus their revision time and does not cover non-examined assessment components or low tariff questions. The format and structure of the assessments remain unchanged.

The advance information covers the major focus of the content of the exams in the GCSE Physical Education full course, presented in specification order. Topics not included in the advance information may appear in questions worth fewer than 2 marks.

For Component 1: Fitness and Body Systems, the subject content focus for higher tariff questions includes:
- Applied anatomy and physiology, specifically the structure and functions of the musculo-skeletal and cardio-respiratory systems
- Classification of joints and their impact on movement
- The role of ligaments and tendons
- Classification and characteristics of muscle types
- Location and role of the voluntary muscular system
- Antagonistic pairs of muscles
- Functions of the cardiovascular system
- Energy use in aerobic and anaerobic exercise
- Short- and long-term effects of exercise on the body systems.

Students and teachers should consider managing revision of parts of the specification not covered by the advance notice and other parts that may provide helpful knowledge. The notice does not apply to specifications with synoptic assessments or optional papers/topics/content.
