Summary

A diploma thesis investigated the reading ability of 59 subjects, including 42 visually handicapped and 17 emmetropic individuals, using the Radner-Reading-Test, Wilkins-Schroth-Reading-Test, and Reading-Comprehension-Test. Results showed that emmetropic subjects had significantly higher reading rates than visually handicapped subjects, with reading rates of 155 wpm, 159 wpm, and 198 wpm in the respective tests, compared to 109 wpm, 115 wpm, and 116 wpm for the fastest visually handicapped groups. The visually handicapped subjects answered fewer questions incorrectly in the Reading Comprehension-Test. The different results among visually handicapped groups were attributed to their varying eye diseases, highlighting the importance of considering individual eye diseases when analyzing reading ability.
