Aaron Coret, a 20-year-old snowboarder, was paralyzed after a crash landing while attempting a trick. During his recovery, he had an idea to create a cushioned pad to protect snowboarders from similar injuries. With the help of his friend Stephen Slen, an engineering student, they developed the Katal Landing Pad, which absorbs impact and mimics the slope of a mountain, allowing snowboarders to practice stunts safely. The pad has a downward angle, a slick surface made of vinyl, and two air-filled chambers that provide cushioning without being too soft. The invention has been used by snowboarders of all levels to perfect tricks and reduce the risk of accidents, giving Coret a way to stay involved in the sport he loves despite his injury.
