The Department of Water and Land Management has a vision to be a knowledge center in water and land management education, research, and practical fields for creating a sustainable environment and enhancing quality of life. Its mission is to develop specialized professionals by imparting quality education and training, and to attain international standards in teaching, education, research, and consultancy.

The program's educational objectives include applying knowledge of basic sciences and engineering to analyze water and land management practices, identifying sources of water and capabilities of different soils, planning and designing water and land management strategies, analyzing complex field situations, and communicating effectively to solve water-related issues.

The program outcomes include analyzing hydro-meteorological data, assessing surface and groundwater resources, planning water resources projects, designing and managing water resources systems, managing land and water in a changing climate scenario, and working in a multi-disciplinary environment.

The M.Tech Water and Land Management program at Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, follows an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) scheme. The program consists of three semesters, with a total of 66 credits. The courses include Optimization Techniques, Surface Water Hydrology, Design of Hydraulic Structures, Remote Sensing & GIS, Water Pollution Control, Environmental Engineering Lab, Research Methodology and IPR, Watershed Management, Groundwater Hydrology, Solid Waste Engineering & Management, and Professional Electives.

Students are required to undergo a mandatory internship of 6 weeks during the vacation of I and II semesters and/or II and III semesters. The internship is considered a head of passing and is required for the award of the degree. The program also includes a technical seminar, project work, and evaluation of project phases.
