Die Städtische Musikschule Illnau-Effretikon, auch bekannt als Musikschule Alato, bietet musikalische Bildung für Kinder, Jugendliche und Erwachsene an. Das Schulreglement regelt die Aufnahme, den Unterricht, die Ferien, die Lektionsdauer, die Anmeldungen und Abmeldungen, die Schulgelder und die Ausschlussmöglichkeiten von Schülern. Die Musikschule bietet Einzel- und Gruppenunterricht, Chor, Orchester, Musiktheorie und weitere Angebote an. Die Schulgelder sind nach der Tarifordnung zu bezahlen und die Schule ist an gesetzlichen und lokalen Feiertagen sowie am Tag nach Auffahrt geschlossen. Die Schulordnung trat am 2. Semester des Schuljahres 2012/13 in Kraft und ersetzt die vorherige Schulordnung vom 7. Juli 2003.
