The study found that the major bottlenecks of innovation for SMEs in developing countries are lack of finance, inefficient efforts of innovation policies, unwillingness to invest in innovation, knowledge gap, and shortage of infrastructure. Characteristics of innovation in developing countries include higher unit costs, less efficiency, and instability, with weak innovation systems and fewer resources for R&D.
