SMGT 340 Organizational Behavior and Sustainability course description:
This course provides a framework for understanding human behavior in organizations,
examining personality, motivation, communication, decision making, leadership, teamwork,
ethics, power, and work stress in relation to sustainability.
Course learning outcomes:
- Develop and evaluate sustainable solutions to organizational issues
- Develop a personal philosophy of leadership and its impact on organizational behavior
To achieve these goals, students will be able to:
1. Explain organizational characteristics and their relation to sustainability
2. Identify the role of employees and individual differences in organizational behavior
3. Identify leadership behavior and management's influence on organizational behavior
4. Explain the influence of power, ethics, and leadership on sustainability and employee behavior
5. Identify work group dynamics and their influence on organizational behavior and sustainability
6. Explain interpersonal communications processes in sustainable organizations
7. Assess the impact of change, conflict, culture, and power on sustainable organizations
Course requirements:
- Read assigned readings and complete written examinations, quizzes, assignments, and projects
- Participate in weekly discussion boards
Grading policy:
- Late or incomplete work incurs penalties
- Assignments and exams have specific point values
- Final grade determined by total points earned, with a scale of 100-93% (A) to 59.99-00.00% (F)
