Many students attempt to trisect a 60-degree angle by drawing an equilateral triangle and trisecting one of its sides, then drawing lines from the trisection points to the opposite vertex. However, this method does not actually trisect the angle. Using coordinates and the formula for the angle between two lines, it can be shown that the two angles formed are not equal. Alternatively, a non-computational proof can be found using the area of triangles and trigonometric functions, which also shows that the method does not trisect the angle.
