Project WIN, a conflict resolution program, was implemented in a low-income, urban middle school in southeast Pennsylvania. The program aimed to reduce school violence by fostering cooperation and compassion. Results showed a decrease in reported violence and an increase in students' ability to apply conflict resolution tools. Students learned to transform competitive situations into cooperative ones, with greater competence in conflict-with-a-friend situations. The program was based on social interdependence theory and included skills such as listening, anger management, and using "I" messages. The study found that Project WIN was effective in reducing violence and improving conflict resolution skills among middle school students.
