Summary

The National School Library Standards Card Game can be played virtually in groups of 4-10. To play, set up a group audio or video conference and send each player links to the PDF game deck sheets. The game can be played with or without a physical game deck.

If one or more players have a physical game deck, the dealer shuffles the cards, places one stack of Shared Foundation cards and one stack of Persona cards face-down, and turns one card face up from each stack. The dealer then identifies a set of Standards card sheets and each player chooses one Standards card that aligns with the Shared Foundation and Persona cards.

If no players have a physical game deck, the dealer selects one Persona card and one Shared Foundation card from the digital card sheets, reads the text aloud, and identifies which set of Standards cards to use. Each player chooses a Standards card and shares one strategy for implementing the Competency or Alignment.

The game also includes blank Persona cards, which can be customized to add to the cast of characters. Players can create additional stakeholder personas or personas that mirror the learners in their school community. These custom Persona cards can be used during virtual or in-person game play to discuss strategies for standards implementation.

Key components of the game include:

Shared Foundation cards
Persona cards
Standards cards (Learner, School Librarian, or School Library)
Customizable blank Persona cards
Virtual game play instructions for groups with or without a physical game deck.

Example personas that can be created include:

Learner personas by grade or specific characteristics
* Stakeholder personas such as School Board Member, Mayor, or Local Business Owner.
