The Department of Architects Engineers of the Polytechnic School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki will award the title of Honorary Doctor to architect Alexandros Tzonis on Thursday, November 23, 2017, at 19:00 in the amphitheater of the Telloglion Foundation of Art. Alexandros Tzonis, a professor of Architecture, researcher, and author, studied architecture at the National Technical University of Athens and continued his studies with a scholarship at Yale University, where he began his academic career in 1965. He has taught at many universities abroad, including Harvard, Montreal, Strasbourg, Columbia, and others. His research and writing focus on design methodology, architectural criticism, revision of the classical canon, and regionalism. In 1985, he founded the research institute "Design Knowledge Systems" at Delft University of Technology to study architectural methodology and develop design tools. Tzonis has a special connection to Thessaloniki, as his father was a professor at the University of Thessaloniki and he is the grandson of the well-known interwar architect Alexandros Tzonis, who has built works in Thessaloniki. The award ceremony will be an opportunity for Tzonis to present his views and for references to be made about his academic work and contribution to critical regionalism, the classical architectural canon, and the evaluation of modern and contemporary architects' work through the exploration of their archives.
