The workshop "Interdisciplinary Approach to Disfluency in Speech" was held on June 10, 2023, at the 48th Kansai Linguistic Society Conference. The event was supported by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and the National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics. The workshop aimed to explore two questions: (1) How does disfluency in native speakers differ from that in second-language learners? and (2) How does disfluency in healthy individuals (native speakers and learners) differ from that in individuals with language disorders? The presenters, from various fields such as descriptive linguistics, corpus linguistics, conversation analysis, language education, language disorders, and speech synthesis, shared their findings and discussed how to apply them to language education, language disorder research, and AI-based speech synthesis.
