Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University's Policy on Harassment, Discrimination, and Sexual Assault (No. 1025) prohibits discrimination against employees, students, or applicants based on age, color, disability, sex, gender, genetic information, ethnic or national origin, political affiliation, race, religion, sexual orientation, or military status. The policy applies to all university operations and programs, and includes undergraduate and graduate students, administrators, faculty, staff, volunteers, vendors, and contractors. The university is committed to a community of mutual respect and does not discriminate or harass. Incidents of discrimination or harassment should be reported to the Office for Civil Rights Compliance and Prevention Education. The policy includes procedures for addressing complaints, including investigations and resolutions, and applies the preponderance of the evidence standard. Administrators and supervisors are responsible for creating and maintaining a work and learning environment free of discrimination and harassment, and for reporting incidents to the Office for Civil Rights Compliance and Prevention Education.
