Mozambique's Ministry of Health is implementing a plan called Plano Estratégico de Logística Farmacêutica (PELF) to integrate the country's supply chain and improve the delivery of health products. The plan aims to address challenges caused by a surge in the number and variety of medicines, larger volumes, and higher costs. VillageReach is partnering with the government to support this undertaking, leveraging the strength of the private sector to improve efficiency and effectiveness. The integration of supply chains is expected to optimize resource use, reduce costs, and increase the ability to finance ongoing improvements. Key milestones towards integration include the recommendation of a fully integrated supply chain in 2013, piloting of integrated outsourced distribution in 2015, and the establishment of a national integration committee in 2019. The government plans to expand integration to new provinces and develop an evaluation framework for long-term sustainability.
