Exploring Residents' Views about Capacity, Capability and Possibility" examines the implementation of Play Streets, resident-led short road closures for children to play, in Leeds. The city council has facilitated Play Streets since 2014, with nearly 100 activated before the Covid-19 pandemic. A project from 2020-2022 aimed to support residents in priority neighborhoods to host Play Streets, recognizing the benefits of increased physical activity, reduced loneliness, and community cohesion. The research component used participatory action research to understand barriers to setting up Play Streets in areas with social and economic deprivation. The study focused on understanding residents' views on Play Streets, identifying factors influencing implementation, and actions to make running a Play Street project easier. The report shares findings on strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities, and provides recommendations for increasing the viability of Street Play projects in communities.
