Summary

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka proposes to re-introduce 'Introduction' as a method for listing equity on the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) with improvements, including a lock-in mechanism, reference price, and improved disclosure requirements. 46 companies listed their shares on the CSE via Introduction between 2000 and 2012, with 33 currently listed on the DiriSavi Board. The method was suspended in 2012 due to limitations, but the SEC now proposes to re-introduce it with amendments, including increasing the minimum number of public shareholders required for listing on the DiriSavi Board from 100 to 200. The proposed lock-in rules include a 6-month lock-in period for shares held by non-public shareholders prior to 12 months from the date of the initial listing application. The SEC invites comments on the proposal by October 4, 2013.
