St James' Catholic Primary School's admissions policy for 2021/22 sets an admissions number of 30, with the Governing Body as the Admissions Authority. Admissions are determined by the following oversubscription criteria:
1. Looked After Children and previously Looked After Children
2. Baptised Catholic children with a sibling in the school
3. Baptised Catholic children resident in the parish of St Richard
4. Other baptised Catholic children
5. Other children with a sibling in the school
6. Children from other Christian denominations
7. Children of other faiths
8. Other children. Distance from the school is used as a tiebreaker, with priority given to those living closer. Children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs or Education Health Care Plan are offered a place without using the admission criteria. Late applications may be considered in exceptional circumstances. A waiting list is kept, ranked according to the Admission Criteria, and retained until at least the end of December.
