Summary

Always use advance warning signs and consider channelizer reduction or elimination. A protective vehicle with high-intensity lights is required, positioned at least 150 feet in advance of the work space. AFAD operators must maintain unobstructed views of the AFAD and approaching traffic. AFADs are not for long-term stationary operations, and flaggers/pilot vehicle operators need current certification training. One or both lanes may be stopped for up to 15 minutes, and if an AFAD becomes inoperable, refer to EPG 616.8.10S.

Description
