Das Europäische Parlament verurteilt die Inhaftierung des Menschenrechtsverteidigers Ahmad Mansur in den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten (VAE) und fordert seine sofortige Freilassung. Ahmad Mansur wurde 2018 zu zehn Jahren Haft verurteilt, weil er sich für Menschenrechte eingesetzt und auf Twitter über Ungerechtigkeiten in seinem Land geschrieben hatte. Er wird in Einzelhaft gehalten und hat keine Kontaktmöglichkeiten zu anderen Häftlingen oder seiner Familie. Die VAE-Behörden haben seine Rechte seit über zehn Jahren verletzt, indem sie ihn willkürlich verhaftet, gefoltert und unter staatlicher Überwachung gestellt haben. Das Europäische Parlament fordert die VAE auf, die Menschenrechte zu respektieren und Ahmad Mansur sowie andere inhaftierte Menschenrechtsverteidiger freizulassen.
